Product information
Purple Velvet F1 Petunia Pellets are the best trailing petunia from seed.
Their intense violet-purple blooms are stunning in hanging baskets, performing better than surfinia petunias raised from cuttings. Unlike surfinias, these petunias continue to produce flowers on top as well as the bottom of the plant. They can also be used for ground cover. The plant height ranges from 80-100cm (32"-40").
What is a Pellet? As the seeds of petunias are extremely small, we coat our seeds to make them easier to handle. These coated seeds are known as pellets.
Handy Tip: Keep baskets well-watered and feed them with a high potash feed to prolong flowering all summer in baskets and containers.

When to Sow | February to March |
Where to Sow | Sow petunia pellets on the surface of well-draining seed compost and gently press them in. Do not cover the seeds with soil as they need light for germination. Moisten the compost with a fine mist. Maintain a temperature of 20-25°C (68-77°F) for optimal germination by placing the trays in a propagator or covering with clear plastic. Place in bright light, but avoid direct sunlight. Germination typically takes 10-21 days. |
What to do Next | When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into pots or trays. Gradually acclimatize the plants to cooler conditions for a few weeks before planting them out after all risk of frost has passed. Space the plants 15-30cm (6-12in) apart, or plant them into containers. For September sowings, overwinter the plants in a cold frame and then plant them out the following spring. |
