Growing to an approximate height of 60cm, these hardy perennials thrive when planted directly into soil borders, rather than in pots or containers. Flower Seed Sowing Technique

Prepare a weed-free nursery bed with crumbly, even soil. Sow when the soil is moist below the surface and dry on top. Mark out drills or areas for scattering seeds, spacing rows 30cm apart and clearly labelling them. Sow seeds thinly, 2cm apart, and gently rake to cover. Water sparingly during dry spells to encourage deep root growth.

Once true leaves appear, thin plants to 10cm apart. In September or October, transplant seedlings with soil balls to the flowering site, providing some protection from winter winds in the first year.

When to Sow	February to June
Where to Sow	Sow seeds on the surface of lightly firmed, moist compost in pots or trays. Cover with compost or vermiculite. Keep at 10-15°C (50-59°F). Ensure seeds receive light for germination, which takes 21-40 days.
What to do Next	When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into pots or trays. Gradually acclimate the plants to cooler conditions over a few weeks. Once acclimatized, plant them out in a sunny, sheltered site with adequate spacing.
